Street Art

Feed your Instagram with snapshots of Balik Pulau street art pieces. An excellent masterpiece to start is the “Roti Man” mural by contemporary graffiti artist Acit Raman Abdullah. The giant mural was painted to honour a local bread seller, Muniandi, who has been selling bread the traditional way for three decades. Then, head towards the Balik Pulau Roundabout, where a plethora of murals such as the “Fisherman”, “Hakka Dancing Girl” and “The Silat Master” pieces by Russian artist Julia Volchkova await nearby the historical landmark. All of these masterpieces illustrate the township’s economic and cultural stories.

Balik Pulau Roundabout

The one and only Balik Pulau Roundabout is a must-see landmark. Small in size yet big in history, this historical monument was built in 1882 by Hakka tycoon Koh Seang Tatt to commemorate the then-Governor of Malacca Sir Frederick Weld’s visit to Balik Pulau. In the past, this iconic landmark served as a public water pump as well as a water trough for elephants, cows, and horses. The roundabout marks the convergence of three main roads from different parts of the island.
