Foreign travellers generally board connecting flights to Penang from two main airports operating in Sepang – KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) and KLIA2 (Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2), and another in the city – the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang. Domestic flights are also widely available for visitors to fly to Penang from other states within Malaysia; visitors can easily fly in from Kedah (Langkawi), Johor (Johor Bahru), Sabah (Kota Kinabalu), Kelantan (Kota Bharu) and Sarawak (Kuching).
The Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas is about to undergo an expansion. The expansion includes four phases and is expected to be completed in about 48 to 60 months. Penang International Airport will be expanded through a project that began in October 2024.
